How to adjust the sleeve length

Making adjustment

to fit your arm length

We are all unique, that means it is a possibility that you have to make some adjustment to a standard sewing pattern to fit you.

Your arms a maybe longer or shorter than standard measurement. But don’t worry. It is easy to adjust the sleeve length.

You will find a dotted line across the pattern on the sleeve pattern – see the photo below. The line indicates where to divide the pattern.
When you lengthen or shorten your sleeve, you must create a new inseam line at your new sleeve.

Check out how to lengthen or shorten your sleeve further down the page.

Lengthen the sleeves

To lengthen the sleeves, cut along the dotted line. Then extend to the desired length and make new lines from the corner at the sleeve opening to the bottom corner – see the red line in the photo

Shorten the sleeves

To shorten the sleeves, cut along the dotted line. Overlap the too sleeve parts. Be aware if you overlap with 3 cm, you will shorten the sleeve by 6 cm because you remove 3 cm from both pattern pieces. When your sleeve pattern has the desired length, you make new lines from the corner at the sleeve opening to the bottom corner – see the red line in the photo
